The Sustainable Impact Alliance (SIA) is a catalytic collaboration platform that localizes the SDGs, strengthens cross-sector partnerships, and enables data-driven progress toward a sustainable, equitable future. Beginning in Orange County, SIA seeks replication across California and national UNA chapters.
SIA Objectives & Goal
Launch
Launch SIA under UNA-OC as a priority initiative to create a Local 2030 Framework and aligned XR Data Dashboard for the SDGs.
Build Leadership
Establish an Advisory Board with sector leaders and generate momentum through multi-sector collaboration.
Scale Impact
Position SIA for adoption and rollout in other participating cities through knowledge exchange and framework sharing.
Implement the Framework
Localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by engaging local government agencies, academic institutions, businesses, civil society organizations, and community groups to measure progress towards sustainability goals.
A Unifying Framework for Communities
SIA LOCAL 2030 FRAMEWORK
XR DATA DASHBOARD FOR THE SDGS
1
What it is:
A data dashboard that demonstrates the power of localizing the SDGs through Extended Reality (XR) experiences, providing interactive and immersive educational access to local sustainability data.
2
Why it matters:
A major barrier to SDG progress is the lack of accessible, integrated data, SIA bridges this gap by transforming data into publicly accessible knowledge through gamified activities with tools for local advocacy and action.
3
Core purposes:
  1. It empowers vulnerable communities with information that can be accessed for free through our XR platform via smartphone, tablet, or computer to visualize how local data impacts their communities.
  1. It improves transparency and inclusion by providing local decision-makers with a non-biased, data-driven platform for local decision-making.
SIA aims to cover all 17 SDGs in it's Local 2030 Framework, addressing environmental, social, political, and economic challenges as well as solutions, utilizing SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, for initial framework development.
XR INNOVATION
Free QR-Activated XR Access
Free access to data visualization through QR-activated XR experiences in civic spaces.
Interactive Public Art Experiences
Turns data into interactive, public art and education experiences—in parks, schools, and cultural venues.
Multi-Platform Accessibility
Accessible via web-enabled tools for equity including: Web3, AR, VR, smartphones, headsets, Mac/PC devices.
AI-Powered Gamification
Uses AI, spatial computing, and geo-location tagging to gamify participation and to track sustainable actions.
XR PROTOTYPE
SDG 11
  • Target 11.6: Reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including air quality.
  • Indicator 11.6.2: Annual mean levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) in cities.
Inputs
  • Historic data visualizations of carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions from energy and transportation.
  • Real-time, hyper-local data visualizations of outdoor air particulate matter metrics.
Outputs
  • Free access to local air quality monitoring data for impacted communities via XR delivery.
  • Free sustainability toolkits to mobilize local community action & inclusive policy engagement.
XR PLATFORMS
Augmented Reality (AR)
Augmented Reality (AR) brings the XR Data Dashboard into the real world by overlaying interactive sustainability data onto everyday civic spaces. Through simple QR access in parks, campuses, libraries, and cultural venues, users can see air quality, emissions, and solution pathways appear before them in context. AR turns sidewalks into learning zones, cityscapes into storytelling canvases, and public spaces into climate literacy hubs—making complex data intuitive, place-based, and actionable for everyone.
Virtual Reality (VR)
Virtual Reality (VR) immerses audiences inside data-rich environments where sustainability information becomes experiential rather than abstract. Through web-accessible headsets or desktop interfaces, users can explore interactive galleries, move through layered visualizations, and witness local conditions translated into planetary context. VR turns sustainability learning into a guided journey—evoking empathy, curiosity, and systems-level understanding while offering a safe space to imagine solutions and future scenarios.
IMPACT PATH: XR Data Dashboard for the SDGs
DATA
  • Reveal local conditions by collecting and analyzing various data points to understand the true state of our environment and communities.
  • Gather diverse data types, including environmental, social, and economic indicators from vetted outlets.
  • Raw data forms the essential foundation for grasping the specific needs and challenges faced by different cities and communities.
STORY
  • Convert insight into relevance through compelling narratives by translating complex data sets into visual stories and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Provide meaningful context for data, bridging the gap between abstract figures and tangible human experiences.
  • Make critical information easy to understand by everyone through data driven stories designed to create awareness of sustainable community development.
ACTION
  • Catalyze behavior, advocacy, and policy change by informing and empowering communities to drive local social transformation at multiple levels.
  • Encourage personal choices, foster community organizing efforts, and support advocacy for systemic policy changes.
  • Empower individual and collective action through public literacy on local sustainability goals to increase opportunities for equitable policy decisions.
SIA ACTION PLAN: Road to a Sustainable Future
To achieve our ambitious goals, we've structured our efforts into distinct phases, each with specific action items and deliverables. This strategic roadmap will guide us from initial setup to widespread replication and adoption, supported by a robust budget and sponsorship model.
Phase 1: Irvine Prototype
Establishing governance, designing the SIA Local 2030 Framework, creating content for SDG 11, and piloting the XR Data Dashboard in Irvine, Orange County, California.
Phase 2: CA Expansion
Scaling the SIA Local 2030 Framework, SDG 11 toolkit, and our XR technology to other cities and communities across California, refining models based on initial learnings and partnerships.
Phase 3: USA Expansion
Expanding nationwide with the SIA Local 2030 Framework, SDG 11 toolkit, and XR technology, fostering a network of sustainable cities and communities across the country for greatest impact.
